In the heart of St. Louis Park, the nonprofit organization Friends of the Arts (FOTA) has been a cornerstone of the community since 1995. Dedicated to supporting, promoting, and enhancing the arts, FOTA brings residents together, fostering a vibrant and inclusive cultural environment.
Arts for Life Scholarship Program
One of FOTA’s flagship initiatives is the Arts for Life Scholarship program. Rooted in the belief that creativity is inherent in all people and that the arts should be affordable and accessible, this program provides financial assistance to residents with financial need. Scholarships are awarded quarterly, enabling individuals to engage in private music lessons, art classes, and other creative pursuits that enrich their lives.
Trail of Small Wonders
FOTA also organizes the Trail of Small Wonders, a community art project that invites residents to create and display miniature enchanted dwellings along local trails. This initiative not only showcases the artistic talents within the community but also encourages outdoor exploration and appreciation of public spaces.
St. Louis Park Art Fair
In partnership with the City of St. Louis Park, FOTA hosts the annual St. Louis Park Art Fair. This event celebrates local artists and makers, offering a platform for them to showcase and sell their work. The fair features a variety of events and activities for all ages, strengthening community bonds through shared cultural experiences.
Strategic Roadmap for Advancing Arts & Culture
In August 2020, FOTA collaborated with city staff and community stakeholders to develop the Strategic Roadmap for Advancing Arts & Culture. This document outlines key themes such as connecting people, promoting health and wellbeing, enlivening public spaces, advancing equity and inclusion, building awareness, and sustaining resources. It serves as a guide for ongoing collaborative efforts to integrate arts and culture into the fabric of St. Louis Park.
